The Journal Pravo lidu 1945-1948:Hopes,Aims and Tattered Ideals

The daily Právo lidu (Peoples' Rights), a paper of the Czechoslovak Social Democratic Party (ČSSD), started to be published 12 of May 1945, immediately after a forced break during the Second World War. However, its renewed edition did not last much longer than mere three years. After the Social Democratic Party merged with the Communist Party the newspaper was closed, or more precisely "diverted" under the auspices of Rudé právo (Red right), the central organ of the Communist Party. My aim in writing this thesis is a study of this period as such, its presentation on the pages of Právo lidu, or a presentation of some major historical events on the pages of the diary and the form of the paper itself. The work is therefore divided into two main parts. The first is a theoretical introduction describing pivotal moments in the development of post-war Czechoslovakia, where I am focusing on the description of the aspects that shaped the period, formed the internal political situation and directed the former Czechoslovakia into the Soviet Union's sphere of influence. The second part of the thesis is devoted to the very analysis of the diary in the years 1945 - 1948, its form, its way of distributing the information and describing certain political moments, as well as the anchorage of the daily in party structures. U.S. Foreign Policy Transformation, 1945-1948: A Neoclassical Realist Perspective

This bachelor's thesis deals with the U.S. foreign policy transformation in the 1945-1948 period. In the post-World War Two era, the United States does not return to its traditionally detached foreign policy that characterizes most of its earlier history. Instead, the country remains a key player in international politics. The United States defines its new primary foreign policy interests and remains engaged almost throughout the entire world in its efforts to safeguard as well as pursue these interests. Despite the initial hopeful attitudes of the American leadership, the Soviet-American cooperation soon breaks down and the mutual relationship between the two countries quickly turns into a fully-fledged Cold War confrontation. Consequently, the United States doubles down on its global engagement. This work examines these most important aspects of the U.S. foreign policy transformation in the period starting from the end of the Second World War to the days before the First Berlin Crisis. In doing so, it utilizes the analytical model provided by neoclassical realist theory. The work consists of four main chapters. From Neutrality to Alliance: Denmark on the Way to the Alliance with the USA and to the Membership in NATO: Contribution to the Study of Danish Foreign Policy in 1945-1949

The topic of my diploma thesis is the Danish foreign policy between the years 1945 and 1949 and its relation to the Danish national identity. The main research question is, if and how the Danish national identity influenced the state's shift from the traditional neutrality policy to the North Atlantic Agreement. To understand the national narrative I use a discoursive analysis of selected sources, mainly the daily press and political speeches intended for public. I focuse not only on the image Danes had about them selves, but also on their view of the other agents of the international relations - mainly on the Soviet Union, the United States and the North. The reaction on Marshall plan in chosen periodics of Czechoslovak press in 1947

The Marshall plan meant important step in recovering of European countries from World War II. The aim of this thesis is to describe the Marshall plan and put it into historical context of Czechoslovakian republic. The main emphasis is to analyse selected journals such as Rude pravo, Svobodne slovo and Pravo lidu. The author will focus on the reactions of journals on refusing the Marshall plan by Czechoslovakian government. The main question of the thesis is to answer what were the reactions on this process in journals and in society like.

The Origins of the Beginning of the Cold War

This thesis analyzes the evolution of the relationship between the three powers and their relations with Turkey and Greece. In the case of Turkey from the interwar period to the approval of the Marshall Plan in April 1948. For Greece, the second half of the Second World War to the approval of the Marshall Plan. The work is divided into chapters that overlap in time, pursuing what is happening in other areas. The study of literature and sources the author came to assess the economic situation in post-war Europe and the Soviet foreign policy by the United States for direct involvement not only in Europe but also in other parts of the world. Soviet policy also allowed for greater rapprochement policy of Great Britain and the United States and countries in Western and Southern Europe. The Role of Greece anf Turkey in the U.S. Strategy of Containment, 1945-1953

Among the states, the history of which was affected by the Cold War can undoubtedly be ranked both Greece and Turkey. Their geostrategic singularity, accentuated by the outcomes of the World War II, caused that the "struggle" between the United States and the Soviet Union for influence in those countries had considerably contributed to a shift in the course of U.S. foreign policy towards the Soviet Union and to adopting an entirely new strategic concept which was to be called as the "strategy of containment". A number of quality books have already been dealing with the general characteristics of this strategy; however, historians have not turned enough attention - which is rather surprising - to its implementation in particular countries and territories. Therefore, an analysis of particular impacts of the strategy of containment on Greece and Turkey, as well as an evaluation of how successfully this approach of the United States towards both the countries worked, have become primary aims of my dissertation. The Marshall Plan Historiography Debate.

This bachelor's thesis deals with the historiography debate about the Marshall Plan and the origins of the cold war which was revived after the collapse of communist regimes due to newly-opened archives in the former socialist bloc. Some historians analyzed the available resources to reveal whether the summer 1947 unsuccessful negotiations regarding the European Recovery Program had been inevitable and who had borne the responsibility for the failure. This thesis focuses on the interpretations of the specialists participating in the debate and aims to ascertain firstly, to which extent they correspond to the conclusions of orthodox historians, revisionists and post-revisionists, and secondly, if the new evidence enables us to unambiguously answer the particular questions.

Comparing the depiction of Marshall's Plan by the press in contemporary Czechoslovakia

The bachelor's thesis focuses on how the Czechoslovakian press informed of preparations for Marshall Plan at the dawn of deciding whether or not to support this program. It compares the coverage of this topic by the Communist Party's Rudé Právo newspaper and the People's Party's Lidové Demokracie newspaper, the mainstream daily newspapers of the two parties in power, often having very different political views. The first two sections of the thesis elaborate on the topic from a historical point of view, tracking the post-war development in Czechoslovakia and throughout Europe, the growing rivalry between the United States and Soviet Union and events leading to Marshall Plan. The third section concentrates on the nature of the Czech media environment during the Third Republic and briefly depicts both examined periodicals. The fourth and fifth sections are devoted to the research and analysis of collected data.

European Integration: US Plan for Protection of Western Europe against Communism

After the World War II Europe was in a situation in which there was no possibility of enhancing its prosperity on its own. At that moment it was necessary to choose one of the dominant opponent sides the USA or the USSR to cooperate with. Due to political and economical systems similarity Western Europe joined the side of the United States, which immediately started developing new approaches towards defeated Germany, expansionistic Soviet Union and devastated Europe. This resulted in formulation of containment policy which was later developed into the Truman doctrine and the Marshall plan. In the first post- war years the main tool of the United States approach towards European stability was economical help. Development of economies was impossible without active cooperation among European countries and therefore the United States and especially the Congress pressed for economic integration. It was also supposed to create better connection between European economies and to enable the expansion of American goods to Europe. At the beginning of 1950s with the first sparks of Korean War the main stress was laid on cooperation in defensive field. All these attempts for enhancing the US position and development of Europe also led to the initiation of European integration process.
